simulation
The Association of German Engineers defines simulation as following:
Simulation is the emulation of a system with its dynamic processes in a virtual model, to gain knowledge and identify situations that are transferable to the real life model.
VDI 3633, page 1, 1993
The simulation of a process, logistic system, or complete manufacturing system is used when:
- breaking new grounds,
- the limitations of analytical methods have been reached,
- a very complex system has to be visualised,
- experimentation in real life is not possible,
- timing and motion of work in progress needs to be optimised.
